While the Automobile Theft Prevention
Authority, ATPA, was established in 1991, Montgomery County
established this Task Force in 1994. Located at 102 Academy
Dr. in Conroe at the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office the
Task Force has its own storage lot and a two bay shop with lift
for inspecting vehicles.
Staffed by Investigators from four different agencies they are
responsible for all auto theft related cases in Montgomery County
and Grimes County. The Task Force also assists with auto theft
related cases in Walker, San Jacinto, and Polk counties.
Since its inception, the Task Force has recovered over 8,500
vehicles and pieces of heavy equipment valued at $94,208,572.00.
They have also recovered $3,393,229.00 in parts and accessories.
Each of the investigators assigned to the Task Force are seasoned
investigators. Each investigator has to attend two specialized
auto theft schools at the D.P.S. Academy in Austin, TX in addition
to continual auto theft training classes. The Task Force conducts
training classes for law enforcement as well as citizen training
classes.
