Hurricane Ike Debris Management Montgomery County is urging citizens to avoid the burning of storm and tree debris created from Hurricane Ike. This includes tree branches and wooden fences. Improperly controlled burning of debris not only is a potential fire hazard but can also produce smoke that can irritate the eyes, nose and throat. Smoke can be much more harmful to people with lung problems such as asthma, as wells as open burning does have a negative effect on air quality. We are asking that all citizens please place all debris on the public right-of-way, and that you separate natural vegetation from construction materials such as fencing. Citizens may also call the debris management hotline @ 877.237.7782 or go to main County website www.mctxoem.org. The removal of this large amount of debris will take some time and your patience is requested in this matter, and your cooperation with your local jurisdiction or precinct personnel to dispose of the debris is appreciated.
